For birthdays, a “Purge”-themed clip will play, with the siren music leading into Steve Wonder’s birthday song. You will know someone ordered the “Jaws” pizza when you hear the ominous cello-playing notes - beh-dum. Executive chef Darnell Ferguson rolls out huge with an extra focus on vegan options, including the Bang Bang Cauliflower ($13.99) and Ecto Impossible Burger ($15.99), and “Brinner,” or breakfast for dinner. Ferguson is best known for his hero-themed SuperChef’s Breakfast & More concept in Louisville and Columbus and has appeared on Rachael Ray and Food Network’s Grill of Victory, among others.

While you’re eating, you can watch a scary movie on one of the televisions in the restaurant. Free popcorn, framed “Candyman,” “Scream” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” posters, and movie reel lights will only add to the horror ambiance. The horror-themed restaurant was the brainchild of Ryan Gullatt, Andre Scott, Jeremiah Burks and Chris Thomas. To create the horror-themed menu they desired, the owners recruited Darnell “SuperChef” Ferguson, a rising star in the culinary world who has worked with Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri in the past. A brand new horror-themed restaurant has just opened in Cleveland and its delectable menu and ambiance are sure to be scream-inducing. The Only Thing Scary...

“The Astro will leave guests feeling as if they just traveled into outer space, while enjoying food and beverages from our sci-fi inspired menu,” said Andre Scott, one of four managing partners. The Haunted House Restaurant, located in Cleveland Heights, opened to the public today, July 20. The restaurant packs a horrifying punch with a menu, decor and other features that are all inspired by popular horror movies. Gullatt – aka DJ Ryan Wolf of Z107.9 radio – is the official Cleveland Browns disc jockey. But I suppose in a horror-themed restaurant offering the unexpected is, well, sort of expected.

Purge Birthday Surprise

With an expansive menu of over-the-top bar and soul food, the Haunted House Restaurant delivers a cinematic throwback horror experience in the former Melt space. The restaurant was conceptualized by the managing partners who brought The Haunted House Restaurant to life in Cleveland Heights. The Astro Restaurant features seating for 196 guests, a Men In Black bar, a party room and otherworldly murals designed by local artists Isaiah Williams and Derek Walker, according to a press release. The sci-fi-themed restaurant is intended to be next level from Scott and his team who are responsible for the Haunted House Restaurant in Cleveland Heights. Fans of all things spooky and thrilling are sure to love this haunted house restaurant that's located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Horror fans will love the ambiance and tasty dishes named The Poultrygeist, Scream Burger, Stranger Things, Pennywise, and Creepy Seafood. The quartet of owners - Ryan Gullatt, Andre Scott, Jeremiah Burks and Chris Thomas - hit on a unique conceptual theme, blending scary movies and good food for the restaurant at the northwest corner of Cedar and S. The Superchef menu will also include seafood, pizza and vegan offerings, with a key feature being “brinner” -- a combination of breakfast and dinner and a takeoff on brunch, which will still have its own time slot on weekends.

And once you make your way to the table, you are greeted by a bowl of fresh popcorn instead of the usual warm bread served up at more traditional restaurants. A nice added touch is an assortment of flavored toppings from the requisite butter to the more adventurous garlic Parmesan. Like a movie theater, the smell of fresh popcorn is in the air.

Pennywise – a red waffle with fried chicken, over-medium egg, and pepper jack heat drizzle – is an offering for those who like to enjoy a meal while ruminating about hideous clowns. He started mulling doing something different and came across a concept called SuperChef’s, a Louisville-based restaurant with a location near Columbus. CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – If you are into unique restaurant concepts and like being scared, the owners of The Haunted House Restaurant in Cleveland Heights have created something for you. Come in for a scary good time as our Thrilling servers Purge your table for a one-of-a-kind experience. The new restaurant moved into the old Hard Rock Café space, restaurant officials say, at 230 W.

Weather update: Tuesday evening

The wait staff hustles to keep up with serving food and drinks while participating in boisterous birthday greetings that involve large flaming sparklers. We were rather boring and ordered an Old Fashioned for me and a Long Island Iced Tea for Jennifer, whose drink was a not-so-scary $5 during Happy Hour. But we were envious of those around us who ordered the adventurous house drinks served in bubbling bowls and test tubes.

The tastes were an interesting pairing, but we wondered whether a boneless chicken might have made for a more traditional chicken and waffle offering. We were intrigued by the Brinner offerings that combine breakfast, lunch and dinner items all on one plate. When Scott heard the Haunted House idea unfolding in a 15-minute conversation, he was giddy, handing the phone over to partner and fellow “operations guy” Jeremiah Burks of Twinsburg. Scott, Cleveland Heights High School’s assistant boys’ varsity basketball coach for the past six years, also credited partner, godbrother and the Cleveland Browns’ own “DJ Ryan Wolf” Gullatt of Shaker Heights for coming up with the concept. The suspense continues to build for the world premiere of The Haunted House restaurant, with a dream of a theme and a July 20 grand opening planned.

Going forward, the restaurant plans to lean even further into the horror theme with movie trivia and a costume party for Comic Con. No cinematic expedition is complete without some sweets, so start out with the Candyman ($34.99), an absolutely ridiculous 51-ounce concoction of grape vodka, cherry vodka, lime juice, cranberry and ginger ale. Like the six other big gulps on its Haunted Potion Bowls menu, the drink is poured in front of you and a fog oozes from the chalice, which is filled with handfuls of  sour candies and most definitely made for two.

Brunch mimosas and shots also offer the smoke effect, and there are non-alcoholic potion bowls, too. Entering into the lobby covered by a mural of Beetlejuice and Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees, visitors are greeted through a microphone by a hostess inside a classic ticketbooth. At the table, your first course is movie theater butter popcorn and a classic film such as Ghostbusters. Seating allows for 163 diners, with space for 30 at the bar, officials say. “With themed events, characters from your favorite sagas roaming the floor and surprises at every turn, dining at The Astro is like stepping into your own sci-fi adventure,” the press release said. The menu is space themed and pays homage to countless pop culture references of past and present.

Jennifer chose the Twilight entrée ($15.99) that consists of a crispy black waffle with  cream cheese whipped topping and a pair of "sticky" fried chicken wings with a red,  blood-like syrup along the edge of the plate. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation. The owners could afford to spend their time on the creative concept since the 4,300 square-foot space – a former Melt Bar and Grilled - was in pretty good shape. Exposed brick “gave the aesthetic we were looking for,” Gullatt said. They did add film-reel lights, cool overhead bulbs reminiscent of, well, movie reels. A black ceiling adds to the vibe, as does a sleek hanging fireplace that looks like part fireplace, part aquarium.

Huron Road in downtown Cleveland, where the old Hard Rock Café used to be. "You're gonna really have fun, enjoy cocktails, you're gonna have-- the food is amazing, plating is amazing," Scott said. From the star-covered ceiling to the walls splashed with colorful murals of characters from Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, The Jetsons and more. They say the location is iconic and offers up countless moments that will have you snapping pictures and celebrating the city. The restaurant also offers an array of craft beers, wines and liquors. Those who want to share an alcoholic beverage can sip on a 51-ounce Creepy Crawlers Mojito, The Thing, King Kong or Candyman cocktail.

We found a space by a creepy, overflowing dumpster tucked behind the restaurant. Bartenders are already being trained, and the restaurant is still looking for cooks and hosts to round out the staff of 40 to 50 employees, with seating for over 100 guests at one time. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Advance Local. • The restaurant has a full liquor license, with an array of craft beers (including suds from Voodoo Brewery, which has a brewpub in Cleveland Heights), wines and liquor. In fact, the menu has seven 51-ounce – yes, 51 – drinks for $31.99. Eminently shareable, they have names like Creepy Crawlers Mojito, The Thing, King Kong and Candyman.

The restaurant also has a full menu of "scary good food." Appetizers include Scooby Snacks, Chucky Rolls, Frankenfish Tacos and more. Entrees are called The Grudge, Final Destination, Birdbox Sandwich and more. Our waitress was running to serve tables on both sides of the restaurant, with a bar-like setting on one side and the smaller, more traditional dining room where we were seated on the other side, which are separated by a wall.
